Basic Electricity for the Weatherization Professional

This training is for:
All individuals working in the field.

Course Description:
This one-day course will introduce weatherization professionals to basic electric theory and application as it applies to the residential building trades. An introduction to NEC (National Electrical Code) will be made so technicians will have a reference should questions on proper application be confronted. Basic meter usage, electrical safety, circuit protection, common wiring materials, electrical components, running wire in existing buildings, and basic troubleshooting will be covered.

Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student will be able to demonstrate:
1) How to work safely with electricity.
2) Ability to use an ohmmeter, voltmeter, and ampmeter.
3) Examine an electrical circuit and determine safety issues.
4) Locate and resolve grounding problems, open and shorted circuits.
5) Understanding of the difference between grounded circuits, fused circuits, and those protected by GFCI.
6) A basic understanding of requirements of local building code regarding residential wiring, and how to find those codes.
7) How to work with common electrical components and to make minor repairs to the residential electrical system.
8) How to wire an insulation blowing machine into a house circuit.
9) The tools and techniques used to run new wire for addition of smoke detectors and ventilation fans.

Note:
Bring your electrical instruments for hands-on instruction in their use.
