Event Title: BPI Building Analyst Course

Building Analyst
Course Description:
Building Analyst training provides the foundation of building science through the framework of an audit process to understanding the "how's" and "why's" of building issues: ice dams, mold and indoor air quality. It is the quintessential "house-as-a-system" in what goes on in building durability, comfort and energy usage.
The course provides an understanding of the BPI Building Analyst Standards through classroom studies and in-field activities. The in-field portion of the class will provide hands-on training with gas appliance testing, blower door use and set-up and proper and accurate combustion appliance zone testing in the state-of-the-art NYSWDA Pressure House and Heating Lab.
The class is followed by a review of the BPI standards and the 100-question (2 hour) Building Analyst test. After the trainees successfully complete the written portion of the test, we will schedule them for the Field test..

This training is for:
All new Weatherization staff, field crews and sub-contractors.
Course Description:
Whenever we work on houses that were built before 1978 there is a good chance that there could be lead based paint on the inside and outside. Disturbing this paint could harm us and the families we work with. This NYSWDA Lead Safe Weatherization Training satisfies the DHCR requirement that all Weatherization staff working in houses built before 1978 receive training on safe work practices to reduce exposure to lead dust. NYSWDA uses the DOE curriculum which also satisfies the DOE and OSHA requirements for employees working around lead paint. This training is also required for your sub-contractors' employees who work on weatherization units.

This intensive 5-day training based at NYSWDA's new Taft Road Energy Efficiency Training Center is a great introduction to building science principles and hands-on air sealing, dense pack and loose fill cellulose insulation installation. Using our state-of-the-art realistic wall, ceiling and attic props, trainees will learn the techniques needed to effectively weatherize our clients' homes.
During this course, the trainees will be introduced to both DHCR and BPI standards and regulations on Health & Safety, Lead Safe work practices and safe and proper use of tools and equipment. Trainees will also become proficient on the set up of blower doors and understand basic use of an infrared camera during air sealing operations.
All three DHCR mandatory trainings are covered in this course:

The Snell Group is known nationally as a leader in Infrared Imaging technology. This 2-day training involves both classroom and hands on field sessions. The attendees, upon completion of the training, will have an understanding of the basic heat theory necessary for all thermal work and will know how to best utilize the imaging equipment they have and be better able to employ the equipment to perform blower door assisted weatherization practices. Comprehensive training manuals for each attendee will be issued during this training to help the trainee get the most from their imaging equipment. This training is capped at 16 attendees, so please enroll early.

This training is for:
Entry level HVAC techs, auditors and sub-contractors
Course Description:
This is an introductory course that will teach fundamentals of heating systems and venting combustion appliances. The focus is to provide all personnel working in client homes, the knowledge to identify different classifications of furnaces and boilers. Instruction on health and safety issues for those working on venting systems and an explanation of which materials can be used and which cannot. NFPA venting guidelines will be introduced so that venting safety is built into the thought process. This training will assist technicians in identifying problems, repairing and analysis of venting systems in the field.

Event Title: EPA Certified One Day Lead Renovator Training

EPA Certified One Day Lead Renovator Training
This training is for:
Weatherization subgrantees' crew supervisors and crew leaders only.
Course Description:
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published the Lead; Renovation, Repair and Painting Program that requires each job have an EPA Certified Renovator on-site while jobs are set up and cleaned up. The certified person will be responsible for documenting that all work was done in a lead safe manner.
This is a 1-day course with approximately 6 hours classroom and 2 hours hands-on lab work and will include testing at the end of the day. Anyone passing the test will then be considered an EPA Certified Renovator and receive a certification card from the training provider (ATC). This is the first step in getting your Agency Certified as a Firm and it is a requirement of your contract.

Course Description:
This four day course will prepare you to successfully pass the BPI Manufactured Housing Specialist Certification written and field tests. As part of this training, BPI standards and work practices will be reviewed. Attendees will look at common problem areas during the course of an energy audit and prepare a workscope to remedy these issues. Topics addressed will include typical manufactured home construction, heating system basics, distribution system evaluation and repairs, belly repair, air sealing and insulation best practices. Because of the large amount of BPI building analyst curriculum incorporated into this training, it is strongly recommended that attendees hold BPI Building Analyst certification and have a good working knowledge of auditing procedures. After the trainees successfully complete the written portion of the test, we will schedule them for the Field test.

Manufactured Housing Specialist
Course Description:
This four day course will prepare you to successfully pass the BPI Manufactured Housing Specialist Certification written and field tests. As part of this training, BPI standards and work practices will be reviewed. Attendees will look at common problem areas during the course of an energy audit and prepare a workscope to remedy these issues. Topics addressed will include typical manufactured home construction, heating system basics, distribution system evaluation and repairs, belly repair, air sealing and insulation best practices. Because of the large amount of BPI building analyst curriculum incorporated into this training, it is strongly recommended that attendees hold BPI Building Analyst certification and have a good working knowledge of auditing procedures. After the trainees successfully complete the written portion of the test, we will schedule them for the Field test.

This training is for:
Weatherization Directors, Auditors, Heating Techs, Heating Subcontractors.
Course Description:
Agencies working on 1 - 4 family dwellings will now have a method of ensuring technicians performing WAP heating services have DHCR and DOE specifications on what constitutes a proper heating system clean and tune. Agencies may find the information useful in writing bid proposals, and for inspection of completed work. Heating Subcontractors are urged to attend. This course is useful as a first step into performing heating system clean and tunes in-house.

Afternoon session - consists of hands-on lab training on an oil boiler and natural gas forced hot air furnace

The course will provide background on the ESB 2.19 Subgrantee Database with a focus on entering buildings, clients, costs, Cumulative Financial Reports (CFR) and exporting data. In addition, there will be a component for DHCR staff only, incorporating the procedures required for certifying units, completing change to prior certifications, exporting and importing the data and an overview of the ESB Central Database.

EXPERIENCED HVAC techs
Course Description:
With the weatherization cost per unit average being increased from $4,500 to $6,500 per home, there is a great opportunity to install higher efficiency heating appliances. 90% Install is a training for EXPERIENCED HVAC techs looking to sharpen their install skills. In this training, attendees will cut and thread black iron pipe, become Tracpipe certified, work with high and low voltage wiring and learn to field manufacture plenum connections with common hand tools. Venting code and manufacturer specifications will also be a high priority in this hands on training. Everything you need to know about 90% furnace installations is rolled into this training.
Agenda:
Day 1 - will cover tools and their use, removal of old furnace, LSW review, preparing new furnace and duct connections.
Day 2 - will cover installation guidelines, fuel connections, electric connections, venting/condensate removal, system start-up and job evaluation.
Both days consist of half classroom / half lab work

Disturbing this paint could harm us and the families we work with. This NYSWDA Lead Safe Weatherization Training satisfies the DHCR requirement that all Weatherization staff working in houses built before 1978 receive training on safe work practices to reduce exposure to lead dust. NYSWDA uses the DOE curriculum which also satisfies the DOE and OSHA requirements for employees working around lead paint. This training is also required for your sub-contractors' employees who work on weatherization units.
