Event Title: BPI Building Analyst Course
Where: NYSWDA Training Center - East Syracuse

Building Analyst
Course Description:
Building Analyst training provides the foundation of building science through the framework of an audit process to understanding the "how's" and "why's" of building issues: ice dams, mold and indoor air quality. It is the quintessential "house-as-a-system" in what goes on in building durability, comfort and energy usage.
The course provides an understanding of the BPI Building Analyst Standards through classroom studies and in-field activities. The in-field portion of the class will provide hands-on training with gas appliance testing, blower door use and set-up and proper and accurate combustion appliance zone testing in the state-of-the-art NYSWDA Pressure House and Heating Lab.
The class is followed by a review of the BPI standards and the 100-question (2 hour) Building Analyst test. After the trainees successfully complete the written portion of the test, we will schedule them for the Field test..

Course Description:
This training will prepare those attending to take the New York State Manufactured Housing Mechanic certification written test. If your business or agency conducts structural repairs on mobile homes or manufactured housing to stay in compliance with NY State Code Enforcement requirements, you will need at least one staff member with this certification. Structural repairs include replacement of door/window framing, replacement of subfloor plywood, or replacement of interior wall and ceiling panels. This staff member must be on-site during these repairs. This individual certification is valid for two years.

Through a partnership with Hudson Valley Community College and The Center for Energy Efficiency and Building Science (CEEBS) Onondaga Community College is offering a Basic Air Sealing and Insulation Course (BASI) course in preparation for BPI certification as a: Residential Building Envelope Whole House Air Leakage Control Installer .
This course is an introduction to the skills and principles necessary for working in the expanding field of home weatherization. Attendees will learn how to install air sealing and insulation treatments that increase a home's energy efficiency. The course teaches the basics skills necessary for weatherizing a building. While not intended to turn you into an advanced practitioner, it will provide the background necessary to become a highly qualified entry level installer.
This is not a required course for weatherization. However, if you have a relationship with your local Workforce Investment Board, One Stop, or if you are running your own Workforce Development or Youth Build Program, your students can now walk away with a BPI certification specifically designed for installers.
Who Should Attend:
Workforce Development or Yourth Build Program candidates seeking a BPI certification
Dates;
Course length is 5 days (Monday-Friday) and training is held at NYSWDA's Syracuse Energy Efficiency Training Center. There is NO written test. However, there is a practical with a verbal exam on the last day where students have to prove they are proficient in 11 separate skills.
Prerequisites:
Knowledge of basic hand tools including utility knives, caulk guns.

Instructors:
NWSWDA staff - all NYSWDA trainers are certified BPI professionals with proctor certification.

This is an introductory course that will teach fundamentals of heating systems and venting combustion appliances. The focus is to provide all personnel working in client homes, the knowledge to identify different classifications of furnaces and boilers. Instruction on health and safety issues for those working on venting systems and an explanation of which materials can be used and which cannot. NFPA venting guidelines will be introduced so that venting safety is built into the thought process. This training will assist technicians in identifying problems, repairing and analysis of venting systems in the field.

This course is useful as a first step into performing heating system clean and tunes in-house.

BPI Basic Installer Certification
Course Description:
Through a partnership with Hudson Valley Community College and The Center for Energy Efficiency and Building Science (CEEBS) Onondaga Community College is offering a Basic Air Sealing and Insulation Course (BASI) course in preparation for BPI certification as a: Residential Building Envelope Whole House Air Leakage Control Installer .
This course is an introduction to the skills and principles necessary for working in the expanding field of home weatherization. Attendees will learn how to install air sealing and insulation treatments that increase a home's energy efficiency. The course teaches the basics skills necessary for weatherizing a building. While not intended to turn you into an advanced practitioner, it will provide the background necessary to become a highly qualified entry level installer.
This is not a required course for weatherization. However, if you have a relationship with your local Workforce Investment Board, One Stop, or if you are running your own Workforce Development or Youth Build Program, your students can now walk away with a BPI certification specifically designed for installers.
Who Should Attend:
Workforce Development or Yourth Build Program candidates seeking a BPI certification
Dates;
Course length is 5 days (Monday-Friday) and training is held at NYSWDA's Syracuse Energy Efficiency Training Center. There is NO written test. However, there is a practical with a verbal exam on the last day where students have to prove they are proficient in 11 separate skills.

Knowledge of basic hand tools including utility knives, caulk guns.

Instructors:
NWSWDA staff - all NYSWDA trainers are certified BPI professionals with proctor certification.
Course Fees;
$1,250/person - tuition
$ 550/person - exam fee
$1,800/person - total cost
NYSWDA will not be responsible for hotel costs, travel to and from the training, breakfast and dinner meals, or incidentals. Lunches are ARE NOT included.
NYSERDA reimburses 50% of the tuition fee upon completion of the course to qualified students in the New York System Benefits Charge utility territories. An additional 25% tuition reimbursement is available for those students employed by a participating Home Performance Contractor (one time reimbursement per designation). This incentive is being offered by NYSERDA for a limited time. You must complete the entire course to receive Proof of Participation and reimbursement. Reimbursement is subject to change at NYSERDA's discretion.
Also, for certain eligible students from Community-Based Organizations, 100% of the tuition may be paid through Hudson Valley Community College's Community Based Job Training (CBJT) Grant, upon successfully completing the practical examination. Tuition is subject to funding availability and program criteria.
