The New York
State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR)
is the state agency that oversees the
Energy Services Bureau which administers the
Weatherization Program for New York State.
The
Program provides energy services to income-eligible
individuals and families to improve the energy
efficiency of their dwellings and to reduce their
housing expenditures for fuel. Since the inception of
WAP in 1977, more than 430,000 dwellings have been
weatherized in New York.
The program
is federally funded through the U.S.
Department of Energy (USDOE) and the
U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services (HHS) through a sub allocation from the
NYS Office of
Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA). The mission of the
program is to weatherize the homes of the elderly and working poor,
including the disabled and families with young children; to minimize
the impact of high heating costs.
