Introduction to Lead Logs
When weatherizing houses built before 1978, they may contain
lead. NYSWDA has identified 12 specific tasks which may disturb lead or
produce lead dust.
Lead Safe Weatherization (LSW) minimizes the risk when
conducted properly. Documenting your practices is the safest way to
ensure that your efforts will protect you and your agency from health and
legal issues. Hand writing this information will convey that each job was
attended to individually. Pictures should be taken at audit, during the
weatherization process, and at job completion. Pictures should be combined
with the Lead Forms and filed in a permanent client record.
LSW Practices for the specific task are listed on page two of
each form. Additional information is listed regarding Clean-up and
Disposal, Work Area Shut Down and miscellaneous observations. This
information should be entered in the Notes section of the Form.
Use two sided printing so page two is on the back of the
form.
The Specific Lead – Safe Work Practices are listed
below and are available in MS Word format. We suggest your
auditor having a file with multiple copies of each of the 12 techniques
that disturb lead and place only those forms in the file for the crew
chief to complete that are relevant to the job.
NOTE: 7/15/2003 we have made the forms available for
hand writing the procedures on the form and as "check" box forms.
You can use either one and both are available in MS Word format.
Hand written logs are best protection but with busy crews you probably
stand a better chance of the checked box forms being used.
