Work Logs
Who needs to keep "lead
work logs"?
All WAP agencies should be
keeping lead work logs. There is some confusion on this issue.
Many agencies think that the logs were just part of the process when crews
were doing the air monitoring. This is not the case.
Here are the two instances when these logs should be done.
-
When you are doing
air-monitoring, logs must be done as part of the process to document
the circumstances of the process being monitored. Agencies doing air
monitoring understand this process.
-
But,
agencies should also be keeping a lead log anytime the weatherization
process disturbs lead paint.
WHY?
A log is the legal proof
that you followed Lead Safe Weatherization and may be needed in the future
if:
-
An employee brings a
claim against your agency that they were exposed to high levels of lead on
the job
-
A client sues agency for
possibly contributing to children in the household becoming lead-poisoned.
Logs should contain the
following information at minimum:
-
Agency Name
-
Crews names and SS
numbers
-
Job site number and
address
-
Date work performed
-
Job tasks performed
(e.g. removing siding)
-
Techniques used (e.g.
list the LSW work practices step by step)
NYSWDA has developed
Lead Log Forms for the network
to use. They are available in MS Word or PDF format.
