urse Description;
This one day “hands on” course is for those look
ing to sharpen their Combustion Appliance Zone (CAZ) testing skills and for
those looking for the basic testing skills necessary for entry level energ
y auditors, crew leaders and installers in the weatherization, building hom
e performance, and HVAC industries.
The classroom portion of this cou
rse will be a review of the Building Performance Institute (BPI) standards
for combustion safety test procedures for vented appliances which covers te
sting of gas or oil fired forced air systems, boilers, domestic hot water h
eaters, gas fired ranges and ovens. Additionally, attendees using a combust
ible gas leak detector, will be taught the proper sequence of gas leak dete
ction and evaluation as outlined in the BPI standards.Attendees will be introduced to common CAZ testing equipment and combu
stion analyzers such as the Energy Conservatory DG-700 digital pressure man
ometer, Bacharach combustible gas leak detector, Bacharach carbon monoxide
detector, Bacharach and Testo combustion analyzers.
During the “hands on” lab portion of this course each attende
e will be guided through step by step testing procedures using the most mod
ern testing equipment and will walk away from this course with an enhanced
knowledge of gas leak detection practices , and proper CAZ and Steady State
Efficiency (SSE) testing procedures.
Attendees up
on completion of this course will receive a laminated BPI combustion safety
test field guide, a laminated DG-700 CAZ test field guide, and a printed h
andout of all course material.
W eatherization Field Staff: With the introduction of the new Quality Contro l Inspection requirements, it is doubly important that your crew supervisor s are performing the HCR required daily test-out procedures correctly. Ple ase consider sending your crew leaders to this course to sharpen their CAZ testing skills and to enhance your agency's compliance with HCR's policies.
