Combustion Appliance Zone Testing 101

CAZ 101

 

Training Location: NYSWDA Training Center (Building 1) – 5869 Fisher Road, East Syracuse, NY 13057

 

Course Description;
In this course students will learn the current Building Performance Institute (BPI) standards and procedures for initial home safety inspections and CAZ testing. Students will also review the principles of combustion and how gas and oil-fired appliances combust fuel to deliver heat to the home.

Attendees will be introduced to testing and safety equipment such as manometers, gas leak detectors, ambient carbon monoxide detectors, and combustion analyzers.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own equipment.

 

Weatherization Field Staff:  With the introduction of the new Quality Control Inspection requirements, it is doubly important that your crew supervisors are performing the HCR required daily test-out procedures correctly.  Please consider sending your crew leaders to this course to sharpen their CAZ testing skills and to enhance your agency's compliance with HCR's policies.

 

Agenda;
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Perform initial safety inspection and testing procedures
• Complete “worst case depressurization” setup/testing
• Identify potential CAZ problems
• Evaluate combustion appliance spillage and action levels
• Evaluate combustion appliance CO limits and action levels
• Evaluate ambient CO and action levels
• Operate all related safety and testing equipment
